TRAIN CAR ON ITS WAY TO FINAL ASSEMBLY
Picture of HART's first rail car taken at the Ansaldo Breda facility in Reggio Calabria, Italy
The Honolulu rail system's first train car has left the building in Italy and is now on its way to the final assembly plant in California.
What is an aluminum car shell with a floor will be transformed into the rail vehicle that will carry thousands of passengers every day.
Workers will install seats and hand rails in the car's interior, along with the train's braking and wiring systems. A fresh coat of paint will be added to the car's exterior.
When completed next year, the car will be shipped to Honolulu where it will undergo its initial testing at HART's Rail Operations Center in Waipahu.
Three other rail cars are in various stages of production at the Ansaldo Breda plant in Italy, and they too will soon be shipped to the California plant for final assembly.
