HONOLULU HAS WORST TRAFFIC CONGESTION IN THE NATION

The recent ranking by the INRIX Scorecard clearly demonstrates the need for the Honolulu Rail Transit project.

Honolulu’s dubious distinction as having the worst traffic congestion in the nation comes as no surprise to the thousands of residents who must endure the long daily commute. This congestion erodes our quality of life. It takes away valuable time that could be better spent with family and enjoying the communities where we live.

The INRIX study showed that Honolulu commuters, on average, wasted 58 hours in traffic last year. To the members of Move Oahu Forward, this is unacceptable. And it underscores the reason why we support rail transit as part of our integrated public transit system. This report confirms the frustration face by thousands of our citizens and demonstrates the importance of the Honolulu Rail Transit project. We must invest in our future and create a more sustainable future for generations to come.
